all the trimmings

Years ago, this would have been inconceivable. I once paid $200 for 2 oz of shittier pot. I didn't buy it myself but a friend knew some people and he did it for me. He came back a bit frazzled from the purchase. The dealer was there with some of his friends and they had a gun on the table. Fortunately, in all my misadventures with pot, I've never personally experienced that and now I won't have to.

Legalization is the way to go. Not only do you eliminate the criminal aspect but you also get rid (or significantly reduce) the possibility of dealers trying to push something else onto the kids that find them. Plus, I heard that Oregon brought in 11 million (!!) dollars it's first week of legal pot sales. That's a significant amount of taxed revenue!

However, I didn't need to contribute to that at all and I might not be for the foreseeable future. That 2 oz of pot lasted me over 2 years. Since legalization, my intake amount may have increased but I'm still a lightweight and now we can have 8 oz in our house which we have thanks to our three legal plants. Andrew harvested it today and I helped him with the trimming. It's really sticky which is really good except for the scissors. It's still got a month to dry out in a jar but after that, I have no idea what we'll do with it all. I'm going to try making tinctures and edibles. I love this future.

What else?
I really missed my bike while I was gone so we took a bike ride out to Gresham via the Springwater. It is so gorgeous out there right now with the leaves turning colors!

wheels darling muffin

Sophia and I have discussed the possibility of raising kids (not really too seriously) if she ever accidentally has a baby (which will never happen). It comes from my preference for babies. I love em. However, I also love not being ultimately responsible for them and being able to pass them off to their parents after I grow weary of them. I don't think I'm quite ready for fatherhood yet so, instead of a human baby, we had a kombucha baby that I named "Wheels" after the United States of Tara and Sophia added "Darling-Muffin as the surnames.

Wheels is a kombucha mushroom which we put in a tea jar with some sugar and tea packets and some other stuff and let ferment for a while.  In a few weeks, if even that long, we had some kombucha. It's pretty good and it's nice that it can be made so simply at home. Wheels is also spawning another child from it so we're going to be able to bottle another kombucha baby. I got to try some of our homebrew kombucha for the first time today and I must say that we did a fine job of raising our baby.

What else?
Another indicator that I may not quite be ready for parenthood occurred when I was at Freddie's today, buying another tea jar. I was swinging it slightly as I walked up to the counter. The lid unscrewed and the jar went flying and crashed to the ground in a spectacular manner. I hate wasting things and breaking things unnecessarily but that was pretty cool.

sundays in November

With my paper out of the way, I spent the day taking it easy.  When you see sun in a Portland November, it's something special too.  There was no way I could spend the day inside studying.  I took Dean for a walk to Trader Joe's with no other purpose than to drink their coffee samples.  As I said, it was an easy day so there was no need for vast amounts of caffeine.

I also went along on an errand run with Ashes that led me to Bamboo Grove where they were having an herbalist workshop.  And I thought I was mellow. :)  Anyway, that was my new thing, going there.

root of the problem

This borders on abuse and I should be ashamed. I've been meaning to re-pot my office plant for some time now but I kept putting it off. Today, I poured water into the pot and it ran out, down my file cabinet and across my flat screen monitor. That was it's way of letting me know that I have put it off for too long.

I brought it home and tried to take it out of it's pot. The roots had grown through the outer pot and were bunching up around the bottom of the pot. I broke them off and pulled off the outer pot to find the roots completely surrounding the inner pot which I also had to break off. I actually did feel really neglectful of the thing, like the time in junior high when I had a tree crab and went to feed it for the first time in weeks and it's legs fell out when I picked up the shell. This plant's not a dog but it's a living thing and I should take better care of it.
